My Eternal Top's: Rod Stewart - Sailing (1975)

Basta ouvir apenas o início desta canção e começo logo a sonhar! É uma daquelas canções que fez despertar em mim algo que ainda hoje não sei bem explicar! Se calhar, no dia em que saberei explicar esse algo deixarei de sonhar, por isso, mais vale deixar essa mística como está...

Pois é, tinha eu 15 anitos quando estava todas as semanas colado ao meu rádio de válvulas, já na altura com FM-Stereo! De lápis e papel na mão, apontava religiosamente os charts da estação Bayern 3, e esse Sailing de Rod Stewart era uma das minhas favoritas. Claro, nessa altura só sabia que Portugal se situa na ponta da Europa e nem sonhara estar a viver um dia neste país!

Penso que não seja necessário falar muito de Rod Stewart. Começou a ser conhecido com Maggie Mae em 1971 e teve durante a sua já muito longa carreira imensos êxitos como por exemplo Tonight’s the night, Baby Jane ou Have I told you lately. Hoje já com 64 anos de idade ainda dá para as curvas!

Sempre, ao escolher canções dos anos 70 estou com o dilema de não encontrar bons vídeos na net. Este aqui apresentado terá sido gravado na Alemanha do programa Disco do então emblemático apresentador Ilja Richter, e podem até apostar que um dos telespectadores era eu...

“Take II” de canções desta australiana aqui no blog, desta vez inserida na rubrica “My Eternal Tops”! Porquê? Porque é uma verdadeira canção da minha vida, por muitas razões. Quando este sucesso ficou conhecido na Europa estava a minha pessoa na Alemanha, de visita na casa da irmã mais nova. Esse (ou outro, já não me lembro) videoclip deu na TV e ficou-me logo no ouvido! Penso que terá sido em Novembro de 2001 quando viajara pela primeira vez em muitos anos sozinho à “minha terra” e esta canção ficou eternamente ligada a essa “nova” liberdade experienciada por mim nessa altura. Neste mês também acontecera o que não acontecia há muitos anos nessa zona, havia caído neve! E eu, não tendo visto há uns bons 15 anos essa maravilha branca, enrolava-me nela que nem um moço pequeno! Curiosamente, cerca de 2 anos depois, essa minha irmã se divorciara, e esse seu irmão seguiu-lhe “os passos” pouco tempo depois...

My Eternal Top's: Kincade - Dreams are ten a Penny (1972)

Tal como anunciado e quase prometido, nas próximas edições desta rubrica falo de canções da minha juventude, ou melhor, do início dela. Certo, da música de hoje já escrevi aqui no blog inúmeras vezes! Por ser uma das principais canções que marcou essa minha juventude vou-me repetindo, vocês entendem!

Cantarolava, no meu miserável inglês de 1973, essa canção a toda a hora, quer a pé no caminho da escola ou de bicicleta nas ruas ou nos campos agrícolas de uma estranha terra chamada Hatzenbühl. Vivia lá 4 anos, numa casa de quina da Leopoldstrasse, uma longa rua que atravessava a aldeia toda já que o letreiro anunciava o orgulhoso nº 144! Irei falar dessa curiosa terra aqui mais vezes, certamente!

O inglês John Kincade (ou apenas Kincade, o nome da banda) teve grande sucesso no país que me viu nascer. Em Abril de 1973 chegou a estar em 2º lugar nos charts e dava a toda a hora nas rádios. Começaram como banda, com esta canção, mas como acontece muitas vezes, John Kincade lançou-se a solo e obteve mais alguns sucessos, principalmente nessa Alemanha, com When ou Till I kissed you...

Escolhi este vídeo por duas razões. A primeira, por ter a música original, sem palmas, cortes ou ruídos! Segundo, por não ser bem um vídeo, é uma secessão de fotografias do cantor e de personagens da época, altura em que o Disco dava os seus primeiros passos! Belos tempos!

My Eternal Top's: Tee Set - Ma Belle Amie (1969)

Já que estou numa de nostálgico, as próximas edições desta rubrica terão a ver exclusivamente com a minha juventude até aos meus 18 anos, ou seja, de sensivelmente 1970 a 78. Como os mais antigos leitores deste blog sabem, muito cedo me “iniciei” nessa arte que é a música, mas claro, apenas ouvindo essa musa, primeiro no gravador de bobines e depois no camião, ambos do meu pai. A cada música aqui apresentada vou tentar acrescentar uma pequena história desses tempos! Claro que já ouvia música antes dos meus 10 anos de idade, porém, só se desperta mais para estas coisas sendo um teenager!

Vou começar com uma canção de 1969 que naturalmente apenas um ano mais tarde ficara mais conhecida, nesses tempos não houve internet! É dos holandeses Tee Set, chama-se Ma Belle Amie, não é cantada em francês mas sim em inglês. Nas poucas informações que há sobre esse grupo na acima citada net reza que esses holandeses obtiveram com esta canção um grande êxito na sua terra natal, e algum fora dele, como na Alemanha onde conseguiram subir em Maio de 1970 até ao 8º lugar. Nada mau, e suficiente para eu a ouvir várias vezes no camião do meu pai e tê-la gravado apenas passados alguns anos quando ouvia a estação austríaca Ö3.

“Vasculhando” os german charts desses tempos, aparecem-me no monitor no PC muitas surpresas. Canções que conhecia de nome mas não sabia quem as cantava e até outras cujo nome desconhecia por completo, como por exemplo Whole Lotta Love dos Led Zeppelin. Conheço-a perfeitamente, mas claro, um “moço” de 10 anos que corria ruas acima e abaixo, o quê é que ele sabia de love...e muito menos de inglês, tal como sobre esta canção – sabia lá ele o quê é que lhe iria acontecer 40 anos depois...ou o que lhe irá acontecer ainda...!

My Eternal Top's: Michael Jackson - Billie Jean (1982)

A minha “proposta” de hoje é soberbamente conhecida, é do álbum que mais sucesso obteve na história musical mundial, nada mais e nada menos do que 104 milhões de vezes que Thriller fora vendido! Claro, foi antes da era “digital”, ou seja, actualmente e com toda a certeza um álbum nunca mais se irá vender tanto como em 1982/83!

A música escolhida por mim deste álbum é “Billie Jean” porque era a “nossa” canção numa certa e determinada discoteca em Lagos. Esses tempos, como costumo referir aqui, eram tempos conturbados, no entanto, também tenho boas recordações dessa altura, como essa discoteca (já não me recordo do nome, ficara um pouco por cima do mercado), as pequenas praias dessa bonita terra, os “hangover’s” na manhã seguinte (sim, nessa altura ainda bebia uns copitos...), e os passeios pelo Algarve dentro. Foi a altura de me “despregar” do emblema “alemão”, deixara de acompanhar colegas alemães que mais não sabiam do que embebedar-se fim-de-semana pós fim-de-semana e começava a ter amigos portugueses. Assisti perto de Lagos, em Odiáxere, ao meu primeiro casamento português! Já nem me lembro quem é que se casara, só me lembro de por lá ter conhecido muita bonita gente – o quê é que terá sido feito deles (e delas)?

Voltando à canção. Nesta música o cantor relata, por assim dizer, uma história que aconteceu a ele próprio. Uma rapariga, grávida, acusara-o de ser o pai da criança! Coisas de gente famosa!

Infelizmente, não encontrei um vídeo melhor, só este do YouTube, é o único vídeo-channel que se dá bem com o meu blog, sabe-se lá porquê (coisas do Google...)! Há um vídeo oficial desta canção, também existente nesse YouTube, mas cuja exibição para Portugal não é permitida (estupidez!). No entanto, o da metacafe consegue ver-se perfeitamente na net, só não dá para o colocar aqui! Mais abaixo está o link desse vídeo!

A canção da minha vida de hoje é mais uma com grande significado para mim. É do tempo de “transição” do mundo alemão e português, é do ano em que cheguei cá, tempos difíceis.

F.R. David ficou conhecido com “Words” de 1982 que vendeu milhões de discos em todo o mundo. Um ano depois lançou “Pick up the phone” e esta canção aqui apresentada. Porém, nunca mais esteve nem sequer perto do enorme sucesso que obteve com Words.
Nasceu na Tunísia mas passou toda a sua vida artística e não só na França. Parece, acreditando no seu site oficial, que “mexe” até hoje!

My Eternal Top's: Nazareth - Shot me down (1977)

Mais uma “aposta” vinda directamente da minha juventude. Na altura era fã do Hardrock, os Nazareth tocavam bastantes vezes no meu gravador de cassetes, juntamente com os The Sweet, os Uriah Heep ou Bachman-Turner Overdrive.
Estes escoceses ficaram muito conhecidos com a balada de rock Love Hurts de 1974, seguindo uma “tendência” deste tipo de grupos que tiveram mais sucesso com canções “soft”. Das 145 (!) canções que tenho desta banda os “slows” se contam pelos dedos, no entanto foram esses que curiosamente fizeram mais sucesso em termos de vendas de discos!
